Before you book

Sailing here usually means motor-sailing

Summer mornings around Malta are often close to windless, with the breeze filling in through the afternoon. A skippered day charter will normally motor out and sail back if the wind cooperates. If sailing rather than arriving is the point of the day, say so when you enquire — the skipper can plan the route around the wind instead of the anchorage.

Crewed or bareboat is a licence question

Taking a sailing yacht out yourself is bareboat charter, and operators ask for evidence of competence before they hand over a boat. If you do not hold a recognised certificate, the same yacht is available skippered — see our bareboat page for what operators typically accept.

Cabins are not the same as berths

On a monohull the saloon often converts, so a boat advertised as sleeping eight may have three cabins and a convertible. For an overnight or a week aboard, ask how the eight berths are actually arranged before you book.
